Centre 33 opens its new hub in Huntingdon

We know that rates of mental health issues are rising for young people. NHS surveys show that before the pandemic, in 2017, 1 in 9 children had a probable mental health disorder. That has now jumped to 1 in 6.

34% of children in Huntingdon live in families with low income and evidence shows this impacts their mental health and wellbeing.

Here at Centre 33 we’ve been working with young people for over 40 years across Cambridgeshire and we have been supporting young people specifically in Huntingdon for the last 9 years.

After many years of sharing space with partners we’re delighted to announce that we now have a centrally located hub in Huntingdon for young people to have a safe space to seek information and support.

The Old Chapel sits just off the High Street and offers space for one to one and group support.

The ‘Someone to Talk to’ drop-in is an open-access, no appointment service where young people can come and talk to us about anything. We can support with mental health, practical issues such as sexual health and housing information, and caring responsibilities for all young people aged 13- 25. The ‘Someone to Talk to’ drop-in is open every Tuesday afternoon.

“Having a hub to be able to drop into whenever we need to talk or just a bit of a time out is so helpful. I’ll never be able to thank Centre 33 enough for how they have helped me and so many other young people.” – Ashley, aged 17

We’ll also be supporting our local young carers community in the building and offering counselling appointments here too.

“We are absolutely delighted to be able to continue our services in Huntingdon. The young people in this area continue to need our help more than ever. We are so grateful our funders for enabling us to reach them”. – Manager, Centre 33
