FOR PROFESSIONALS: MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Centre 33 works closely with professionals supporting young people with their mental health. Learn about the support we offer, partnerships with organisations such as YOUnited and how you can seek support for a young person.

professionals supporting young people

If you are concerned as a professional about a young person at your school, GP practice or in your community, then you can encourage them to get in touch with us directly. Young people are able to refer themselves for all our services or just drop in for a chat and some support.

Professionals can refer young people for counselling or YOUnited - see more details below. They can also refer them to our young carers project.

mental health support

We support young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing by providing counselling and guided-self-help as well as signposting young people to resources and services that can help them. This offer is available for young people aged 13-25 living in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area.

Any young person in a crisis should seek support via First Response – 111 and select the mental health option.

How to get help

Young people have two ways of accessing this support.

• They can self-refer by contacting our helpline or our drop-in. Find our contact details, including hub locations, here. We encourage young people to contact us at a time and in a way that works for them.

• We are part of the YOUnited partnership. This is a group of four organisations supporting children and young people with their emotional wellbeing and mental health locally.

Find out more about YOUnited here, and see more about how referrals work below.

“It made it possible for me to talk to friends and stuff about feelings. It’s weird but suddenly it was okay."

YOUNITED REFERRALS

YOUnited help - up to the age of 17

YOUnited offers a single referral hub for ALL young people aged up to 17 with the support of a professional. If the young person would like your help in getting support for their mental health then with their consent you can refer them via YOUnited.

YOUnited help - age 18 to 25

Young people aged 18 to 25 can self-refer to Centre 33 or self-refer to Mind. GPs can also make referrals for mental health assessments to CPFT’s Primary Care Mental Health Service.

What happens next?

Self-referral: After a young person contacts us we will invite them to come to one of our drop-ins, or arrange for a worker to spend time talking them through their options on the phone. They will then go on a list to be allocated counselling or guided self-help. ‍

YOUnited: After you have made the referral for the young person, they will be contacted for an assessment (usually on the phone). As a result of this assessment the young person will be referred to the service best suited to their needs (either Centre 33 or other partners).
