for professionals: young carers support

Centre 33 works closely with professionals supporting young carers. Learn about the support we offer and how you can seek support for a young carer.

professionals supporting young people

If you are concerned as a professional about a young person at your school, GP practice or in your community, then you can encourage them to get in touch with us directly. Young people are able to refer themselves for all our services or just drop in for a chat and some support.

Professionals can refer young people to our young carers project - see more information below. They can also refer young people for counselling or YOUnited - find more details here.

young carers support

Centre 33 is the commissioned young carers assessment and support service for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. All young carers referred into us are offered a statutory young carers needs assessment. We devise an action plan with the young person which aims to reduce the impact of their caring role. Support is then offered based on individual need and can include 1:1, group or online support.

Before making a referral, we encourage professionals to look at the support needs of the whole family, it may be appropriate to make an Early Help referral if their needs cannot be met within universal services.

Please signpost young carers and their families to universal support:

• Download the Young Carers Support App on iOS or Android.

• Ask the GP to code the young person as a young carer on their system.

• Connect them to their school or college Young Carers Champion.

• Use our signposting guide, which contains lots of resources and organisations ready to help.

Professionals working with young carers can access documents, presentations, posters and more in our young carers resource hub.

Make a referral for a young carer or young adult carer here.

"thank you - the training was great. I feel confident in my role as a young carers champion now."

young carers support: training for professionals

Identifying and supporting young carers is everyone’s responsibility. We are here to help.

We provide knowledge, expertise, training and resources to enable professionals to identify and support young carers across services and settings. As well as the above options, did you know:

• If young carers are 13 or older they can come to Centre 33 drop-in sessions.

• Young carers and young adult carers have legal rights.
