Charlie’s Story

Charlie, 20, lived at home and wanted support with exploring benefits, learning about bank accounts and online banking, revising his CV, job searching effectively and building the confidence to promote his skills to potential employers. He had felt stuck and unable to make progress for a while, which was getting him down. He was taking antidepressants and wanted to become more independent from his family home.

What did we do?

At Centre 33, we believe in empowering young people to be independent. Instead of doing the work for them, we support them to take action themselves. We helped Charlie apply for universal benefits, sort out his bank account, and improve his CV. We also worked on his interview skills and helped him identify his strengths and potential.

Then what happened?

Charlie’s feedback throughout the process has been very positive. He feels more confident approaching various tasks. After his coaching period at Centre 33, he leaves with:

• An income he is entitled to that he didn't have before.

• Awareness of online resources to independently access basic support and guidance for job searching.

• A CV and covering letter he feels confident with and knows how to adapt for different roles.

• The confidence to recognise the skills and experiences he can bring to a potential job.

• Improved knowledge of online banking.

• Increased confidence in applying for jobs.
