Centre 33 continues to look for a new home in Cambridge

After over 40 years at 33 Clarendon Street, we have outgrown it and need a bigger, more flexible space for young people to come to for support in Cambridge.
Early in 2023 we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to investigate a purchase of the former Mill Road Library.
We have invested careful time and thought into retaining the character of this beautiful building and have worked closely with engineers, planners, surveyors and our wonderful architects MOLE to develop plans and understand costs.
However, the study has revealed that the level of work needed to ensure the building is fit for purpose has increased the budget beyond our original bid and it is no longer a feasible option for Centre 33.
The Board of Trustees have therefore made the difficult decision not to progress with the purchase.
This is a very sad and disappointing outcome for Centre 33 as the whole organisation has been committed to the prospect of working in this beautiful building.
We owe it to young people and our community to invest our valuable resources carefully. They deserve an organisation that has financial stability and has their best interests at heart.
We thank the County Council for the opportunity and we will continue our work supporting young people in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire while we look for a new home in the area.
